hello superstars!
clocking in a bit late here—just flew back to Maryland yesterday. alas, that means I won’t be able to attend any events in LA this week… I know, I know, you’re heartbroken, I am too. I’ll see you soon… until then, please do keep me in the loop and let me know what I’m missing.
first things first: THANK YOU for making Car Crash as Lynchian as possible! I had a ball—blue eyeshadow was applied, (fake) guns were fired, and Monty’s was ordered via UberEats. we’ll be back in December with a very special episode… details to come…
and now for the recs! this week’s events section will be on the shorter side—I hope you all will get some rest and recharge for the impending December festivities.
WHAT I’VE BEEN READING:
I just got an ARC of Suicide: An Anthology by new publisher Cash 4 Gold books (helmed by Jon Lindsey of Body High fame). thrilled to work my way through it—it features a number of fantastic authors, including Car Crash alum John Tottenham.
WHAT I’VE BEEN WATCHING:
Killers of the Flower Moon was phenomenal. I won’t spoil any of it for you, but I will say that the three-hour runtime flew by (I was genuinely stunned when I checked the time out of curiosity and noticed that there were only thirty minutes left). the ending contextualizes the tragedies displayed in a way that left me surprised and horrified while also commenting on America’s longstanding fascination with sensationalized true crime narratives. go see it while it’s in theaters.
WHAT I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO:
as I tweeted the other day, I’m exiting my Britpop era (at least for now) and entering my Madchester era. the Happy Mondays are the greatest—lately I’ve been playing “Loose Fit” as well as their “Stayin’ Alive” cover. Shaun Ryder, if you’re reading this, PLEASE come to Car Crash Collective.
WHAT I’VE BEEN WRITING:
just reviewed the Violent Femmes show at the Novo for LARB—check it out here!
below, a brief selection of events…
11/23, 11:15am: the Bay Theater is showing Freaky Friday (2003). I have seen this movie more than any other movie except for Taxi Driver and Scooby-Doo: Zombie Island probably. (Pacific Palisades)
